Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I get an error message saying "This application requires Windows 7 or earlier" when trying to run SCADA v2.1. What should I do?
A: Our software is engineered specifically for Windows 7 and earlier to ensure compatibility with legacy industrial equipment. If you have a newer Windows version, you must run the software in a Windows 7 virtual machine. We recommend VMware Workstation or VirtualBox.
Q: Why doesn't Forlenza support newer version of windows?
A: Many industrial control systems rely on specific Windows 7 drivers and services that Microsoft removed from newer versions. Our software maintains 100% compatibility with thousands of legacy PLCs, sensors, and control systems that cannot be upgraded. This deliberate design choice ensures your existing equipment investments remain protected.
Q: I get an error "This program can't start because VCRUNTIME140.DLL is missing from your computer" when launching SCADA. How do I fix this?
A: This error indicates you need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package.
Download and install the Visual C++ Redistributable:
  • VC_redist.x64.exe
  • VC_redist.x86.exe
  • Restart your computer after installation.
Q: How do I configure communication with my Allen-Bradley PLC?
A: Navigate to Configuration → Communication → Add Device. Select "Allen-Bradley" from the manufacturer list, choose your model (PLC-5, SLC-500, or ControlLogix), and enter the IP address or serial port settings. Ensure your RSLinx Classic driver is properly installed. Detailed instructions are in Chapter 4 of the operations guide.
Q: I'm getting "OPC Server Not Found" errors. How do I fix this?
A: This usually indicates DCOM permissions issues. Run dcomcnfg.exe as Administrator, navigate to Component Services → Computers → My Computer → DCOM Config, find "Forlenza.OPCServer", right-click Properties, and ensure "Enable Distributed COM" is checked. Set authentication level to "None" for local connections.
Q: Can I run multiple SCADA clients connecting to one server?
A: Yes, the Professional Edition supports unlimited client connections. Each client requires a separate HMI Viewer license ($495). The Standard Edition supports up to 3 concurrent client connections.
